GLP-1 medication is a type of weight loss treatment that works by mimicking a natural hormone called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), which helps control appetite, blood sugar levels, and food intake. For qualified candidates, Reset Solutions physicians may prescribe a patient the GLP-1 medication semaglutide or tirzepatide depending on the patient's health history and weight loss goals.  Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist commonly known by the brand names Ozempic (for type 2 diabetes) or Wegovy (for weight loss).  Tirzepatide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist and GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) receptor commonly known by the brand names Mounjaro and Zepbound.  Both are weekly medications taken by subcutaneous injection.  

Due to supply shortages our physicians typically prescribe our patients semaglutide or tirzepatide blended with cyanocobalamin (vitamin B-12) and compounded by a trusted pharmacy partner.

Besides cost (which is about 90% less than the list price of name brand medication) and availability, there are several benefits of using compounded medication for weight loss.  Most notable is the flexible dosing schedules that the compounded medication allows.  Name brand medication is dispensed in patented injector pens with a predefined dose, meaning that the patient may be locked in to using a higher dose even if they are experiencing unwanted side effects or were achieving their weight loss goals at a lower dose.  In addition, the vitamin B-12 provides extra energy to patients while they are losing weight and may help to reduce other side effects. 
Some potential side effects of GLP-1 medications include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and decreased appetite. Most side effects are mild and typically improve over time.  Our modified titration plan is also designed to minimize the potential for unwanted side effects.
